For many years, I've been a big fan of both Devin Underwood and Mathieu Lamontagne. Each artist has a profound pedigree, and has released some beautiful, diverse and often haunting music on a variety of labels. There is a peculiar synergy, however when the two combine their talents and I'm thrilled today to offer this latest release from the duo of Specta Ciera & Arbee - 5-405 e.p.
Clocking in at just under 20 minutes, this release somehow manages to pack a huge amount of quality into such a seemingly small parcel. The music here is sublime, moving you along at a pace that seems unhurried yet headlong. The 20 minutes goes by far too fast.
In their own words, "As admirers of their surroundings, Mathieu & Devin continue to incorporate the inspiration of landscapes, monuments, atmosphere and the like into their compositions. From the sky to the land that surrounds them, they take cues from these beautiful things and weave their thoughts & experiences into melodies and rhythms."
You can find more music by both Mathieu and Devin at the links below. I'm thrilled to welcome this talented duo to Aatma, and look forward to more music from them in the future.
A study in repetition and pattern recognition, "Infinite Tape Loops Volume 1" draws the listener in and invites them to immerse themselves completely in it's musical environment, wherein multiple textures and forms become apparent.
A fascinating and engaging listen for those who are willing to give in to it's charms... rikm
