Stunningly immersing, intensely enigmatic and thrillingly mindscaping journey by gifted UK's dronescaper & photographer. "Senessence" CDr is an aural and visual must-have jewel, bravo, Peter (& Jenny), and kudos to Geoff & Steve...
I first met peter james in 2008, during the halcyon days of MySpace before it fell into social media oblivion. In those days, peter was recording & releasing under the pseudonym 'still', and I was immediately drawn to the work he was doing and the stake in the ground that his music so firmly placed.
For me, peter's music has always ticked two very important (and oft-ignored) boxes in the ambient genre. First, it must tell a story and have a discernible arc that defines a “song”. A great deal of the ever-growing ambient music community seems to fall into the "wall of noise" trap - fade in on a murky, ephemeral chord...hold for 12 minutes...fade out. While peter's music is often decidedly minimal (in fact, deliberately so), there is always a recognizable beginning, middle and end: a tangible song arc that one can follow as it unfolds.
Second, the music must illuminate the artist that creates it. There must be a visceral connection between the song and the artist that is palpable in the music. Having had the genuine pleasure of calling peter an actual friend for many years (as in the traditional, we've-met-in-person-and-had-tea sense), I can confidently say that his music is an aural expression of the man. It's complicated, exacting, limit-pushing and scrapes ever so slightly along the edge of caustic at times. It is also honest, and sincerely beautiful.
I'm so very happy to release "senessence" on Aatma and to offer a physical version for only the second time in our label's short life. This is the (intended) last album by my dear friend and erstwhile musical muse, peter james. Please enjoy.

with thanks to all who have supported me over the years, not least Geoff Stewart for his unwavering faith in my works.
profound thanks to Jenny Jo Oakley who graciously gave her blessings for me to rework some of her vocal parts from our “there is only now” sessions, and without whose amazing voice this would not have been completed.
...transmuting through gorgeously heartwarming mirages into blissful all-embracing sonic euphoria. It happens again and again with each spin, I am drifting through the emotionally magnified sonic Eden into the resonant silence with goosebumps on my arms...
Recorded in the remembrance of lost loved ones, "The Passing" dives into the most intense, yet nectarously sumptuous, harmoniously gratifying and luminously eulogistic zones of heart-rending contemplations ever sculpted by Steve Roach!!! Richard Gürtler
I listen to "every day a new goodbye" each morning upon waking, it's so incredibly moving! Nothing that Peter has created has ever touched me the way this particular piece has! I'll add it's just as beautiful when I play it thru the day, yet first thing in the morning, I find it the most beautiful way to begin my day! Jacquelyn
